Viewliner II:
The Viewliner II represents the first major expansion of Amtrak’s single-level long-distance fleet since the 1990s. Built by CAF USA, these cars are modernized with 125 mph capability and updated interiors. The most significant shift in the II series is the removal of in-room toilets from Roomettes, moving them to shared restrooms at the end of the car to align with Superliner standards. Kato produces all types of Viewliner II including, Baggage, Sleepers, Diners, Baggage-Dormitory Cars.
Model Features:
- Designed to operate along with Kato’s HO Superliners.
- Metal weights give prototypical heft and momentum
- Optional kinematic couplers allow prototypical close coupling while still navigating tight radius curves.
- Able to be illuminated with Kato’s optional 7-504 interior lighting kit.
- Designed with easily illuminated marker lights with optional light board
- Free rolling, detailed trucks with rotating bearing caps and shock absorber construction.
The General Electric P42 locomotive is also known as the “Genesis” locomotive. The P42 is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive used across the United States and Canada. Amtrak’s P42 has replaced the EMD F40PH in revenue service and today they are used throughout the United States. Since their introduction, they have had a number of physical revisions to improve the ease of maintenance and parts replacements, including a bolt-on fiberglass nose panel (replacing the original’s solid metal which was difficult to repair or replace) and a new headlight bezel that is more rounded than the previous square versions.
Much work is put into all our models to ensure the colors are crisp and accurate. Naturally, our HO P42 is no exception as we worked directly with Amtrak to ensure you get a model that looks like it came right out of Amtrak’s paint shop. What’s more is that even up close our paint and details maintain their accuracy.
Model Features:
- Perfectly suited to pull Kato’s Viewliners & Superliners.
- Directional headlights and taillights on both the front and rear of the locomotive, allowing it to operate as both a standard pulling locomotive with double heading capability or a push-pull engine, whether oriented facing forward or back.
- Illuminated pre-printed number boards
- Capable of navigating minimum 370mm (14 3/5″) radius curves (R1 radius in Europe), allowing the P42 to go where previous Kato locomotives have never been able to go before – dining room tables, coffee tables, spaces previously reserved exclusively for N scale!
- Coreless truck-motor drive paired with a super-heavy solid metal body mechanism; doubling the number of motors while increasing the traction potential and weight for new standard of running smoothness and pulling power.
- Available from your local dealer with ESU Loksound DCC and Sound pre-installed!
