A Truly Historic Rocket!
As the tallest, heaviest and most powerful rocket ever produced, the original Saturn V was a 3-stage rocket that stood 363 feet high (110.6m), weighed approximately 6.2 million pounds and generated 7.6 million pounds of thrust at lift off. At just over 36 stories tall, it stood about 60 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty, making it quite an impressive site on the launch pad.
The Saturn V was at the heart of NASA’s Apollo and Skylab programs as it was able to launch a 45-ton payload beyond low earth orbit, which was necessary for sending men to the moon. A total of 13 Saturn V launches took place between 1967 and 1973, delivering 24 astronauts successfully to the moon and back to earth. The first launch of the Saturn V rocket was during the Apollo 4 mission of 1967, and was a crew-less launch meant to test the rocket. The first launch with a crew occurred in December of 1968 during the Apollo 8 mission which sent astronauts in orbit around the moon but did not land. Apollo 9 added another piece to the puzzle as the moon lander was tested by flying in Earth's orbit, and Apollo 10 saw the lander launch to the moon, testing its space flight again without landing. Then came Apollo 11 in 1969, changing the space race forever!
We were finally able to land astronauts on the moon and take that famous first step into the future. Successful missions followed with the Saturn V rocket, landing astronauts on the moon during Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17. The last launch of this historic rocket came in 1973 when it was used to launch the Skylab space station into Earth orbit.

SpaceX Falcon 9 Model Rocket has its own unique story. On May 30, 2020, astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken climbed aboard their Dragon Crew spacecraft. These people did something no one had ever done before : they rode a reusable commercial rocket to orbit. Thus, it marked the beginning of the Next Space Age.
Until that moment, human space flight had always been the purview of nations. Launching objects and humans into space to 'slip the surly bonds' required more resources and expertise. Neither an individual nor a corporation could afford it. Space flight was expensive. Space flight was difficult. Space flight was a rare commodity. But not anymore. Now, finally, human space flight was attainable with Falcon 9 model rocket.
Revolutionary Invention - SpaceX Falcon 9 Model Rocket
This extraordinary two-stage launch vehicle, designed and manufactured by Space X, is able to safely lift more than 50,000 lbs into orbit. Remarkably, after a successful launch, the first stage returns to Earth for an upright, powered landing and a precision touchdown, ready to launch another payload into orbit. There’s never been anything else like it!
Now, Space X has collaborated with Estes to create a 1:100 scale launchable reproduction of the Falcon 9 rocket with its Dragon Crew spacecraft payload.
And just like the actual Falcon 9 it can be re-launched over and over again!
The fully assembled scale Falcon 9 is composed of molded plastic parts with silk-screened markings and comes ready to fly.
Show off your SpaceX Falcon 9 model rocket with the included custom display stand, or store in its specially designed collectable case.
Every launch of your Estes Falcon 9 rocket will be an event! Though it won’t reach orbit, you can expect launches up to 300 feet on a recommended Estes engine. Recovery is via 18-inch parachute – sorry, powered return to pad is not a model rocket recovery option at this time!
A fantastic model on display or in flight, this Estes and SpaceX Falcon 9 collaboration belongs in your collection today!

Two sheets of detailed, three-color decals complete the original look and feel of a future space liner. It launches up to 800 feet on a recommended Estes C or D engine. The Estes Super Orbital Transport looks like the real thing and flies like a dream!
The return of a classic! Initially, the original Estes Orbital Transport was a “must have” kit for a generation of rocketeers. Now, the new Estes Super Orbital Transport is here and ready to inspire a new generation!
The Estes model is inspired by the initial NASA designs for the Space Shuttle, which were intended to usher in a new era of routine and commercially-viable space travel.
The powerful booster rocket, designed to launch the passenger spacecraft into orbit, is modeled after supersonic airliners from that era. These imagined vehicles would land solely as aircraft, ready for reuse and relaunch with minimal turnaround.
New Great Features of Super Orbital Transport:
The new Estes Super Orbital transport is the bigger and updated version of the original kit. Re-engineered with laser-cut wood structural units, custom jigs to aid in accurate and speedy construction, a set of high-quality plastic nose cones, and two sheets of detailed, three-color decals to replicate the 1969 kit. This new model recreates the strikingly realistic look and feel of the original, only bigger!
Dazzling dual recoveries are the hallmark of the Estes Super Orbital Transport. Launches under the powerful thrust of the recommended Estes C or D engines are equally impressive! This model lifts off upright in the traditional rocket launch configuration. At the peak of flight, the piggy-back glider detaches and begins its winged decent while the booster section returns under its own 18 in. parachute.
The Super Orbital Transport is the Estes revival you don’t want to miss! Be part of the new tradition - build and fly this remarkable model today!
The D12-5 Engine Bulk Pack is built for rocketeers who want reliable D-impulse performance in a convenient, launch-ready format. These motors are a great match for medium-weight kits and two-stage rockets that need a stronger lift-off and a predictable coast-to-recovery profile. Use them when you want added altitude and a confident, repeatable flight every time you head to the field.

Each motor produces a clean, steady burn that reduces variability between flights, so you’ll see similar altitudes and flight behavior across launches. That predictability makes the D12-5 particularly useful for learning how changes in payload, fin design, or recovery systems affect performance—valuable whether you’re teaching beginners, running a club launch, or flying with the family.
Performance highlights include a total impulse of 20.00 N·s, a 5 second time delay, a maximum lift weight of about 10.0 oz (283 g), and a peak thrust of 32.90 N with a thrust duration around 1.60 seconds. These specs make the D12-5 powerful enough for rockets such as Green Eggs, Big Daddy, and Odyssey while remaining predictable and easy to manage at the launch site. The 24 mm diameter and compact form factor mean wide compatibility with many popular Estes kits and aftermarket mounts.
Ready to step up your flights? The D12-5 Engine Bulk Pack gives you the power and consistency to learn, experiment, and enjoy more successful launches. As always, follow the included safety and handling instructions, use the recommended recovery gear, and launch in a safe, legal area. Order your pack today and get more of the high-altitude, reliable flights that keep people coming back to the pad.

History of Antar Model Rocket
The "Father of Model Rocketry" and founder of the National Association of Rocketry is Harry Stine (NAR #02). What's more, he is one of the original pioneers that founded the hobby right alongside Vern Estes, Stine was also a talented writer.
Estes' designers created a precise replica for this Designer Signature Series kit. Moreover, it is based on multiple sketches and the original model, which belongs to Bill Stine, Estes Vice President and the son of Harry Stine.
In 1951, people didn't have the hobby of flying model rockets yet. Therefore, they didn't design Antar as a flying model rocket. Stine was a physicist and clearly understood the science of flight. So even though Antar was a fictional vehicle, the science behind it meant it could be stable in flight.
Antar Model Rocket:
- Initially created in 1951
- They did not design it as a flying model rocket
- Designed to be stable enough in flight to be used as a model rocket
- Precise replica created for the Designer Signature Series kit by Estes' designers
- Replica based on multiple sketches and the original model owned by Bill Stine, Estes Vice President and the son of Harry Stine
Overall, the history of the Antar model rocket is a fascinating story. It showcases the innovative and adventurous early hobbyists who laid the groundwork for modern model rocketry.

History of the Saturn 1B
Before there was the Saturn V, there was the Saturn 1B, the NASA test bed for Apollo flight hardware. The Saturn 1B test flew versions of the Apollo Command and Service Module, and the Lunar Module.
Initially tested as the second stage on the Saturn 1B rocket, the S-IVB upper stage eventually served as the third stage of the Saturn V rocket. The Saturn 1B would eventually see service as the primary launch vehicle for Earth orbit missions in the Apollo spacecraft.
Features of the Rocket
One of the distinctive features of the Saturn 1B is the set of cylindrical tanks that forms the rocket’s first stage. Sometimes people misidentify the tanks as re-purposed Redstone missile stages because they resemble a cluster of smaller rockets.
In fact, these 70-inch diameter tanks were created using the same forms that produced the Redstone rockets. So, while they share a common lineage, they were not surplus rockets themselves. The tanks fueled eight H-1 engines, four of which could gimbal to steer the rocket while under power. Eight low profile fins ringed the base of the rocket for guidance during atmospheric flight.
Saturn 1B Launches
In February of 1966, NASA launched the first Saturn 1B rocket with an early version of the Apollo Command and Service Modules. There was no crew aboard. The subsequent Saturn 1B launch of Apollo 7 on October 11, 1968 certified the Apollo spacecraft for human spaceflight. It would be the last Saturn 1B launch for nearly five years.
After the final Apollo moon landing in 1972, NASA used the last Saturn V to launch the Skylab Orbital Workshop. Three crews would eventually be sent to live and work in the space station. Each crew was launched aboard an Apollo Command Module carried by a Saturn 1B. Each launched aboard an Apollo Command Module carried by a Saturn 1B.
The first of the three Skylab crews lifted-off on Saturn 1B vehicle SA-206 and stayed for 28 days. Their first task in orbit was to repair Skylab after an accident at launch ripped away a solar panel and sun shield. Led by Apollo 12 moon walker Pete Conrad, the crew performed a dangerous EVA and successfully rescued the space station.
The Estes Saturn 1B SA-206
The Estes Saturn 1B SA-206 is a stunning 1:100 scale recreation of the Saturn 1B and Apollo spacecraft stack as it appeared in 1973 for the launch of the first Skylab crew. Every detail is there, from the Launch Escape System atop the Apollo Command and Service Module, to the first-stage H-1 engine nozzles (remove for launch).
Textured body wraps, injection molded components, and other plastic formed parts add a level of realism to this Master-Level kit that every scale modeler will appreciate. Launch your finished model using one of the recommended Estes engines for a spectacular liftoff and dazzling two-piece recovery under dual parachutes. On display or in the air, the Estes Saturn 1B is a marvelous addition to any fleet.

The History of Star Hopper Rocket
Let's take a look at the history of Star Hopper Rocket. In June of 1947, an experienced civilian pilot reported “saucer-like discs” over Mount Rainier. Strange lights appeared in the sky before then but never like this!
By July, the papers ran stories about a rancher who discovered strange wreckage in the desert near Roswell. Accounts of mystery “aircraft” and other unknown aerial phenomena were gaining public notice. Something strange was going on and the people in charge wanted answers.
Furthermore, in 1949, a clandestine group of government scientists met at a secret airbase in Nevada to form Project Star Hopper. A fast and maneuverable piloted vehicle was the goal; meant to compete with the unidentified objects commonly referred to as "flying saucers."
With the nation’s best engineers on the task, plans were drawn up for a sleek and functional atomic-powered vessel. The goal was to launch it quickly to intercept the aggressors. The result was the Star Hopper – the world’s first interplanetary spacecraft. They constructed and tested a small fleet, and by 1955, they were ready to protect the skies from alien invaders. Or so they told us…
Competing with Flying Saucers
Was there really a Project Star Hopper? Actually, it’s hard to say. No documents or proof exists – just rumors and speculation. Consequently, based on the scant evidence available, Estes designed a detailed model of this cryptic craft. Moreover, the Estes Star Hopper is a Beginner-Level kit that all rocket lovers would like to own and fly.
This is a no-glue, no-paint, snap-together kit that anyone can build and launch all in the same day. Featuring detail-molded plastic fins, nose cone, and engine mount, this kit not only looks great but survives even the roughest landings as creators intended. Pre-finished in a retro atomic-age silver paint scheme, the Star Hopper is a stylish kit that looks great and flies even better!
Prep the Estes Star Hopper with a recommend Estes engine (not included) and get ready for fantastic flights up to 400 feet – great for demonstrations and small field flights. Besides, watch at apogee as the rocket ejects a 18-inch streamer to slow its fall and help you track it to the ground.
With the twist-on engine retainer for fast engine loading, and a relatively wide body tube for easy ejection wadding and streamer packing, you’ll have your rocket ready to launch in no time! While the real Star Hopper may only be a myth, the Estes Star Hopper is real and ready to fly!
$144.99
Specifically designed for the youngest of rocketeers. Star Hopper has minimal parts count and everything snaps together so there’s no glue required. Everything is pre-colored but can also be self-decorated with markers or stickers so kids can give it their own “look”. Do you have a small flying field and worry about if you can recover your model rockets safely? Star Hopper is designed for small fields with it’s drag streamer recovery and Estes mini engine power. But don’t worry, even though it’s small your kids will still have a BIG FUN experience building and flying Star Hopper.

Officially it’s the LAMPMU – Low Altitude Mars Personal Maneuvering Unit – but no one on Earth or Mars calls it that. In fact, to most people it’s simply “The Leaper.” Developed for the first Mars Expedition of 2035, the jetpack was envisioned as a way to rapidly travel between surface habitats.
What the engineers didn’t count on was just how fun it would be! “Why walk when you can leap!” exclaimed Mission Commander Grace Henry, removing her helmet after the first test flight in the thin Martian atmosphere. And from that moment on, it was “The Leaper!”
The easy-to-assemble Leaper is an exciting addition to the Estes Destination Mars collection. You’ve never seen a model rocket like this before! Constructed from durable EPP foam, the Beginner-Level Leaper is a prefinished rocket that can be ready to launch in minutes.
No gluing, sanding, or painting required for this kit. Simply insert the stabilizer rods and your model is ready for the launch pad. The Leaper rocket uses engine ejection at the peak of flight. This shifts the center of gravity for a gentle, upright landing without a parachute or streamer. Amazing!
Launch Day of Destination Mars Leaper
- Prep the Leaper for flight with the recommended Estes A10-0T engine.
- There’s no engine hook. Just add a few layers of masking tape around the middle of the engine for a friction fit and engine retention during flight.
At launch, balanced by the extended stabilizer rods, the Destination Mars Leaper can reach up to 75 ft. – high enough to impress but still low enough to track. Modest altitude flights also make the Leaper a great choice for small flying fields. At apogee and engine ejection, the Leaper rights itself and lands safely on its tripod legs. Mars survey mission completed – ready to launch again!

Green Eggs lofting rocket designed for Estes C11 and D engines. However, carrying a regular size raw egg as a payload comes very close to exceeding the max lift capability of most C6 engines used in other egg loft kits. Therefore, we recommend Estes C11 engines instead. They will provide a safe and stable flight, along with a recovery suited for small-sized flying fields.
Green Eggs lofting rocket's clear payload is big enough to carry TWO medium sized eggs (with a D12-3 engine)! Swept fins allow the egg lofting rocket to stand by itself.
The main body tube and clear payload section are both the same diameter so that you can glue a standard launch lug into place without the need for an awkward stand-off. Green Eggs Balsa fins are thick enough to enhance alignment and provide exceptional strength, even when Green Eggs are mounted through a wall.
All these lofting rocket features add up to less time building and, therefore, more fun time for your students to perform experiments with their “eggstronauts”.
This kit uses the BT-65 Body Tube, Egg Capsule Nose Cone, and BT-65 Tube Coupler.

The Ban on Nuclear Testing and the Hardtack Series
Before we start, we need to cover the prehistory of Doorknob Model Rocket. During the mid-1950’s, the US and Russian nuclear testing caused public concerns over nuclear fallout to reach a fevered pitch. In response, President Eisenhower announced a ban on further nuclear testing on or before October 31, 1958.
US scientists disregarded the ban and conducted the Hardtack Series of tests to collect data on radioactivity effects from both underwater and above-ground detonations. The program consisted of 35 detonations in the Pacific Proving Grounds from April to August 1958.
Measuring the Effects of Radioactivity
Scientists were chiefly concerned about damage to the ozone layer and possible effects of long-range radioactive fallout. To measure the earth's upper atmosphere, they developed single and two-stage Doorknob rockets. They could capture radioactive data for analysis at altitudes of approximately 50 miles.
Early results indicated minimal or no damage to the ozone layer from the nuclear testing. Additionally, it's possible that water detonations generated enough ozone to compensate for any loss caused by above-ground testing.
The Estes 1:5.3 Scale Model Doorknob
