Siemens ACS-64 #600 – the very first of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor "Cities Sprinter" electrics – in its special American flag demonstrator scheme, with DCC WOWSound on board.
The Prototype
Amtrak ordered 70 ACS-64s ("AC Sprinter, 6,400 kW") from Siemens to replace its aging AEM-7 and HHP-8 electrics. Built in Sacramento, California, the 8,600 hp ACS-64 can reach 125 mph. It became the workhorse of the Northeast Corridor and Keystone services after entering service in 2014, pulling Northeast Regional trains between Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington.
#600 was the first unit built. It rolled out in a patriotic flag-themed demonstrator scheme that made it one of the most photographed locomotives on the Corridor.
