Passenger Cars

Add authentic Pennsylvania Railroad commuter detail to your HO scale layout with this highly detailed MuP-54 Coach from Con-Cor International. Road number 74 is lettered in the classic PRR Keystone scheme — Tuscan Red with a contrasting black roof — representing the workhorse coaches that carried millions of Northeast Corridor commuters for over half a century.

The Pennsylvania Railroad began building P-54 commuter cars around 1908, continuing production into the 1930s. When PRR electrified the Northeast Corridor beginning in 1915, these cars were upgraded into Multiple Unit (MU) electric operation as the MuP-54 fleet. As pure coaches, these 54-seat cars formed the core of PRR’s high-frequency commuter service out of New York Penn Station and Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. The car’s signature end “porthole” windows are faithfully reproduced on this model.

Con-Cor’s HO scale model is built from the 65-foot prototype and runs easily on 18-inch radius curves — no need for the 24–26-inch minimum required by full 85-foot passenger cars from other manufacturers.

Model the Pennsylvania Railroad's iconic commuter fleet in HO scale with this highly detailed MuP-54 Coach from Con-Cor International. When PRR electrified the Northeast Corridor beginning in 1915, these cars were upgraded into Multiple Unit (MU) electric operation as the MuP-54 fleet. The Futura lettering scheme — named for the clean sans-serif typeface PRR adopted in the postwar era — replaced the earlier Keystone herald scheme and represents the cars in their later service years. Con-Cor HO Scale MUmP54 – Long Island Rail Road Tichy Scheme

Powered Coach w/White Window Stripe – Car #1505

Prototype History

The MUmP54 (Multiple Unit motor Passenger car, 54 feet) is one of the most iconic electric multiple-unit cars ever operated on the northeastern railroads. Originally built for the Pennsylvania Railroad beginning in 1910 and continuing through the 1930s, these sturdy cars served commuters for decades across the PRR's electrified territory. Many examples were later inherited by Penn Central and eventually found their way into service with the Long Island Rail Road and SEPTA into the early 1970s, making them a staple of the East Coast commuter rail scene.

The Long Island Rail Road operated MUmP54 cars in the classic Tichy Scheme — a striking paint arrangement with a distinctive white window stripe that became synonymous with LIRR commuter service. Car #1505 represents this historical livery in faithful HO scale detail.

The real Patrón Tequila Express rides again, in HO scale.

Car #50 was built in 1927 as a private business car, one of roughly 2,000 made for railroad presidents and industry titans. It later served as the executive car of the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio "Rebel Route," and hosted passengers including Franklin D. Roosevelt, Huey P. Long and Clark Gable. After a stint on the Eureka Springs & North Arkansas, the car was bought in 1996 by John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of Patrón Spirits and Paul Mitchell. He poured about $2 million into restoring it as The Patrón Tequila Express.

Today it is one of only about 130 private cars still certified to run behind Amtrak trains. It regularly shows up on the tail end of long-distance trains and at union stations from Chicago to Los Angeles, in Pullman green with gold lettering and the GM&O herald.

This limited special run from Con-Cor captures that paint scheme on a heavyweight solarium-observation car. It is perfect for trailing a modern Amtrak consist, a heritage excursion, or a display shelf.
