Softcover, 72 pages, B&W and Color photographs with captions.
In January 1953 the Baldwin Locomotive Works supplied the Central New Jersey with four of their model RS-12 road-switchers. They were specifically purchased to dieselize the shuttle services that ran between Elizabethport, Newark and Kearny, New Jersey.
By 1954 changes were already in the works and the delivery of Budd RDC-1’s removed them from their intended service. Baldwin diesel locomotives were a familiar product on the CNJ. Because of this, the four quickly found themselves in yard and local service in and around Jersey City.
In time, their service lives carried them to Ashley and Bridgeton before the Baldwin era ended in 1973. This 72-page, softcover title illustrates their CNJ existence from delivery to scrapping with 21 of the pages being in color.
Not to be overlooked is a review of the steam tank engines they replaced as well as leased Reading Baldwin AS-16's.

This softcover publication is filled with a variety of well captioned photographs. Also included is a full roster, as well as, an informative look at the trains, the territory and the roles this interesting fleet played during their late 1940s to early 1960s era.
This is not simply just another locomotive book! Full color photographs are provided on the interior and exterior cover pages while the book itself is presented in crisp B&W. In today's mobile society interest in regional railroads is not just localized but literally worldwide.
That same thought holds true for interest in the minority diesel locomotive builders.
