Capture a piece of Amtrak history with Bachmann's HO scale Siemens ALC-42 Charger in the one-of-a-kind 50th Anniversary "Day 1" commemorative livery, modeled after locomotive #301 — the same unit that led Amtrak's anniversary celebration. Developed in partnership with Siemens Mobility using original design documentation and prototype field recordings, this is the most accurately detailed ALC-42 available in HO scale.
Sound — TCS WOWSound Decoder
The 16-bit, 44,100 Hz TCS WOWSound decoder delivers rich, true-to-prototype audio including:
- Prototype horn and bell recordings
- Prime mover startup, idle, and shutdown sequences
- Air compressor and cooling fans
- Coupler clank and brake application/release
- Grade crossing quill
- Crew alert
- Station announcements
Audio Assist lets you configure the decoder without diving into CVs, and the built-in Keep-Alive device maintains smooth operation over dirty track and poor electrical contacts.
Lighting
- Directional headlights (front and rear)
- Interior corridor work lights
- Marker lights
- Ditch lights — steady or alternating flash, DCC-controllable
Construction & Detail
- Die-cast metal frame for weight and smooth running
- Separately applied windshield wipers, grab irons, and fine detail parts
- Printed interior cab section visible through clear windows
- NMRA-compliant dual-mode decoder — runs on DCC or conventional DC
- Performs best on 22″ radius curves or greater
Prototype
The Siemens ALC-42 (marketed as the Charger) is a long-distance evolution of the SC-44 platform, featuring a redesigned nose profile, revised cab door configuration, and a Cummins QSK95 prime mover rated at 4,200 hp. Amtrak's #301 wears the 50th Anniversary livery applied for the railroad's milestone year.
