Four Ways West, hardcover, 128 pages, 8.5 x 11 in., all color photographs.
5 x 11 in., Color and B&W photographs (about 90% color). There are some really good photos in this book, in my opinion. I admit I am biased towards first-generation diesel locomotives, early paints scheme and passenger trains. This book features these subjects in sunny California!

It's a great book for color photography of my favorite era and State of AT&SF operations -- all my Santa Fe memories were in California in the 1960s and I treasure them. The book was filled with recollection triggers, and the layout by Divisions, similar to the Tom Dill titles from Four Ways, is very useful and natural.
Caption-writing duties were handed to the photographers in many cases. That provides insight into the photo, but the book in general could have used a bit more editorial connection and voice.
Photos are also typically run as several images to a page spread, and that really means that the impact takes close study with each, and the resolution isn't always great enough to catch all the nuance in each composition.
Those are critiques of publishing and authorship -- but the book is a valued addition to the library because of the images selected, and I'm happy with the purchase on a general higher level than just three stars!
