This book is reprint of a D&H published summation of the locomotives operated since the forming of the railroad up to the date of June 13, 1926. Therefore, later steam locomotives acquired by the D&H are not included herein.

Many early locomotives are mentioned, and the B&W illustrations look like the smaller photographs issued in the catalogs of the locomotive builders. These locomotives along with maps showing the growth of the D&H routes are presented in a timeline.
