The Pennsylvania Railroad began building P-54 commuter cars around 1908, continuing production into the 1930s. When PRR electrified the Northeast Corridor beginning in 1915, these cars were upgraded into Multiple Unit (MU) electric operation as the MuP-54 fleet. As pure coaches, these 54-seat cars formed the core of PRR’s high-frequency commuter service out of New York Penn Station and Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. The car’s signature end “porthole” windows are faithfully reproduced on this model.
