This color pictorial on the Kansas City Southern starts out with a brief history of the line then presents the all-time diesel locomotive roster up to 1999. Photographs with extensive captions cover the line beginning in 1940 and continue through 1999.

The book ends with photographs of the passenger fleet and KCS and Louisiana & Arkansas depots. There are a few color steam photographs and many early diesel photographs including a number of the Erie-builts.
